When we are working 9 to 5 just trying to make a living we don’t recognize the negative impact sitting all day is having on our body!

For those of us that sit down at a desk most of the day, health and wellness are hard things to work into our lifestyle.  Research shows that sitting down at a desk all day can cause us to gain weight, decrease muscle mass, increase chance of heart disease, increase depression and anxiety- among other illnesses. We sit at our desk, then we sit to drive home, and finally we sit down to watch the newest episode of Greys Anatomy. We are always sitting! But not to worry; listed below are a few things you can implement into your fast-paced life to decrease your chance of the things listed above and increase your quality of life!

One healthy thing you can implement while at work is to add a quick stretch at your desk!

By getting up and stretching out your muscles, you are increasing your blood circulation and waking your body up! You can do this stretching your arms in the air, reaching down and touching your toes, even standing and bending backward to stretch out your back and chest.

Another tip you can implement is taking an hourly break.

This can be a 5- 15 minute break that allows your body to move and increase your physical activity. Maybe take a walk to the break room to grab a healthy afternoon snack, or a lap around the building to get fresh air. Just get moving!

Instead of taking the elevator to your floor, take the stairs.

Let’s be honest no one enjoys the individual that takes the elevator to the second floor, am I right? By taking the stairs you are giving your body the physical activity it needs to create better circulation, release endorphins, and potentially help you lose weight!

When at work, make sure you are staying hydrated!

I know how easy it is to get a soda from the vending machine or grab a cup of coffee from the break room because it is free, but the best thing you can do for your body is to drink water! It will help release toxins in your body, create clearer skin, and even help you digest food better.

My last tip is to ditch the food delivery and become friends with reusable Tupperware!

Restaurant food is loaded with extra sugar and salt. By bringing your food you are helping your body, but also your wallet! By bringing your own meals from home you are saving money, knowing all ingredients in your meal, and helping the planet at the same time!

I hope that having these healthy tips allows you to implement a healthier lifestyle into your busy schedule!
