Gresham Office Furniture Hiring Event Details

HTI is hosting a hiring event for Gresham Office Furniture in High Point, NC seeking DIRECT HIRE Upholsterers, Sewing Operators, and Fabric Cutters. Four day work week on first shift! Interested candidates will need to pass a background check and drug screening.

When: Wednesday, December 14, 2022  (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.)

What to Wear to the Event: Dress code is casual (come as you are, but please be presentable)

Job Openings & Pay Rates

– Upholsterer (Soft Seating) – $18-25/hour

– Sewing Operators (Soft Seating) – $16-24/hour

– Fabric Cutters – $17-20/hour

Shifts Available

1st shift (7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
Monday – Thursday with overtime Fridays, if needed

Upholsterer (Soft Seating)

Requirements

– High school diploma or GED
– Ability to pass a pre-hire background check and drug screen
– 1 year upholstery experience
– Craft work on individual pieces of new furniture
– The ability to take accurate measurements and work out amounts of materials
– Good attention to detail
– Patience, perseverance & time management
– Safety-awareness; follow all H&S procedure
– Self-motivation and the ability to work without supervision

Physical Requirements

– Your work may be physically demanding, involving lifting up to 50lbs and carrying furniture
– Ability to stand for a minimum of 8 hours

Responsibilities

– Building furniture up with foam padding to form smooth rounded surfaces
– Examining furniture frames, upholstery, springs and webbing to locate defects
– Fitting, installing, and securing material on frames, using hand tools, power tools, glue and staples
– Making and/or creating custom upholstered furniture, using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods
– Reading work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials in order to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover workpieces
– Preparing patterns and templates
– Cutting out fabric
– Covering frames with padding and fabric using stitching, staples, tacks or glue
– Adding trimmings such as piping, fringing and buttons

Sewing Operators (Soft Seating)

Requirements

– High school diploma or GED
– Ability to pass a pre-hire background check and drug screen
– Experience working in a furniture manufacturing environment
– Understanding of sewing zippers and top stitch (flatstitch)
– Ability to re-thread the machine and change needles (essential)
– The ability to take accurate measurements and work out amounts of materials
– Good attention to detail
– Patience, perseverance & time management
– Safety-awareness; follow all H&S procedure
– Self-motivation and the ability to work without supervision

Physical Requirements

– Your work may be physically demanding, involving sitting, standing, lifting up to 50lbs
– Sitting at sewing station for majority of shift

Responsibilities

– Selects thread according to colors of fabric
– Joins pieces together according to sewing notes using sewing machine
– Aligns pieces and any trimmings following seams, edges or markings on parts
– Checks for any puckering or bad seams

Fabric Cutters

Requirements

– 3+ years of reading and understanding patterns and yardstick measurements
– Experience reading and interpreting cutting patterns
– Must be able to cut plain, line up, match and spot fabrics
– Must be able to read and understand cutting instructions
– Must be able to produce top quality product
– Must be able to work with minimum supervision
– Must have your own reliable transportation
– Must have strong communication skills in reading, comprehending, speaking, and writing in English
– Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
– Must be able to stand to cut patterns on a tall cutting table
– Must be able to walk/stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day
– Must be able to work in normal conditions of a furniture manufacturing plant that is heated and cooled
– Must have good vision, specifically with colors
– Must be able to adhere to all safety policies and procedures to prevent injuries to yourself and others
– Other duties as assigned by the manager

Responsibilities

– Reads tickets for style, materials, and special instructions|
– Locates correct patterns/lay-up requirements, and check fabric/leather for defects
– Verifies that materials and pattern correspond to ticket
– Marks and cuts fabric to proper pattern size and stack
– Marks and bundles all parts and places in proper storage on table or rack
– Inspects work for defects and ensure job specifications are maintained
– Records all yardage, cut information, and name on proper cutting documents
– Labels and returns all fabric, and partials to proper storage area
– Place sub-assemblies in proper location based on production schedule
– Cross trains in department and supporting departments as needed
