What are Co-Ops and Internships?

Everyone has a basic understanding of what co-ops and interns are. The misunderstanding usually happens of what differentiates these two groups.


Co-Op (cooperative education) is a method of combining class-room based education with practical work experience. Individuals will work full time with rotating terms while earning academic credit. Co-Op programs can last one semester or an entire year.


Interns are students or trainees that gain occupational experience, part-time (12-20 hours per week) in conjunction with schooling. Interns also have full time opportunities in the summer.
